CHESHIRE -- State Police say they have captured an escaped inmate from Cheshire Correctional Institution.

Police say about 7:15 p.m., Troop I was told that 25-year-old Luis Clarke had escaped in the past hour.

A reverse 911 went out to residents in the area from Cheshire Police.

Police say that Clarke had hidden during a recreational break that was given between 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. When an inmate count happened at 6:15 p.m., Clarke was missing. Police say a sweatshirt stained with blood was found near a tall, barbed-wire fence on the west side of the rear annex building, along with a picnic table that was positioned upright in order to help Clarke scale the fence.

Soon after the escape, Cheshire Police received a stolen car report from a plaza located about 3/4 mile south of the prison. A pizza delivery driver said that his car was taken from the plaza parking lot.

The owner of the car had left his keys and cellphone inside the car. Police say a cellphone ping showed them the phone was in Wallingford, and later in Meriden.

Clarke had left the stolen Toyota at a parking lot at Cheshire Academy, and had a passing motorist take him to a home in Meriden.

Police were able to find him, and took him back into custody.

Clarke is now being charged with Escape and Larceny. His next court date is November 30th, and is being held on  $100,000 bond.
