EAST HARTFORD — Police said a man fatally stabbed a pit bull that was involved in a fight with his dog at a Connecticut park over the weekend.

East Hartford Lt. Joshua Litwin said animal control is investigating and there had been no arrests as of Monday morning.

Litwin tell the Hartford Courant the dogs began fighting at Labor Field about 11:45 a.m. Sunday.

He wasn’t sure what breed the other dog was but he said its owner pulled out a knife and began stabbing the pit bull in an attempt to get it to stop fighting with his dog.

The bleeding pit bull was taken to a veterinary hospital, where it died.
