HARTFORD — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is using his annual Thanksgiving message to thank Connecticut residents for allowing him to serve for the past eight years.

The Democrat notes the challenges he and the state braved together, including major natural disasters, the “unthinkable tragedy” of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and having to recover from “the most significant economic downturn since the Great Depression.”

But Malloy says “we came together as a state and emerged stronger than ever.”

Malloy also thanked Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, who he called a “steadfast advocate” for veterans and their families, women and access to health care.

While his time in office is coming to an end, Malloy says he’s more optimistic than ever about Connecticut’s future.

Democratic Gov.-elect Ned Lamont takes office on Jan. 9.
