WALLINGFORD — A Connecticut mother has asked for nearly $4,500 from her local school district to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses for a concussion she says her daughter sustained while practicing for a powder puff football game.
Pat Haskell, of Wallingford, tells the Record-Journal her daughter Katie fell and hit her head on the ground at Sheehan High School in October 2017.
Katie, a 17-year-old senior at the time, suffered headaches, light and noise sensitivity, balance issues and was unable to play softball her senior year.
Pat Haskell says she was told the school will reimburse her $4,409.
School officials were unavailable for comment on Friday.
Girls from Wallingford’s two high schools, Sheehan and Lyman Hall, have played powder puff flag football annually the day before Thanksgiving for 47 years.
