WATERBURY — A man who shot and killed a 16-year-old girl in a moving car when she threatened to disclose their relationship has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

The Republican American reports that 27-year-old Dominique Pittman cried Monday as he listened to the girl’s family tell the court how beautiful, intelligent and vibrant she was and how much they miss her.

Pittman, who apologized to the family, pleaded guilty in September to murder in the December 2017 shooting of 16-year-old Evalyce Santiago, of Waterbury.

Authorities said Pittman became angry when Santiago threatened to tell his long-term girlfriend about their relationship.

Pittman told investigators he and the girl struggled over the gun in the car and it went off before the vehicle crashed. She was hit in the head.
