HARTFORD — Officials have identified the officers involved with the shooting Tuesday morning of a suspect by police.

As is standard procedure, Connecticut State Police have taken over the investigation as police continue to search for suspects. It’s also the second officer involved shooting in less than three weeks.

Just after midnight a suspect engaged Officers Michael Fallon and Brian Kearney in an alleyway on Amity Street. Hartford Police were patrolling in the area of Capitol Avenue after a recent uptick in crime.

“This is recent gunfire activity that’s been ongoing for several weeks,” said Trooper 1st Class Tonya Compagnone, They spotted a gray sedan driving erratically. The driver took off. A passenger ran. The radio call continued, “Suspect is down! He’s at gunpoint! (Unintelligible) are you good? You good? Are you hit? Neither of us are hit that we know of right now.”

Recordings of police radios include cries of, “Stop and drop your weapon!” and “10-20 shots fired! Shots fired!” yelled an officer.

“An exchange of gunfire did occur at that time. The suspect was struck several times,” said Hartford Police Lt. Paul Cicero. No officers were hurt. The suspect is in critical condition.

The officers were placed on administrative leave.

It happened right outside the window of Antanieta Williams. “It just was so close and basically when I saw everything it was at my window,” said Williams, who got on the floor. “Scared, yes! I rolled over and crawled into the bathroom.”

Jose Morales has lived on Amity Street for 30 years. “When I looked out the window it just was flooded with emergency vehicles.” He said he won’t let thugs run him out of town. “I still feel safe. It’s still my city.”

Police are still searching for suspects and a gray sedan, possibly a Nissan Maxima with CT license plate AL-75069. Officer Fallon' s father was a former assistant Chief at Hartford PD. Tuesday was the anniversary of his dad’s death
