NEW BRITAIN -- New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart tweeted out Thursday morning this picture of a giant sink hole following a water pipe break.

The incident happened on Chestnut Street when an 8-inch diameter iron pipe that busted open around 10 a.m . Firefighters did not get the water to stop gushing underneath the road for about an hour, leading to the soil lose it's integrity. This led to a massive sinkhole that's about the size of the sedan.

Power was shut off to the area, and there were some evacuations of neighboring buildings, including a kidney dialysis facility.

Herald Square Dialysis haven't made a decision if they'll be open Friday.

Deputy Fire Chief Rich Frohoch told FOX61 they had trouble shutting down the main that supplies water from two different directions.

Luckily no vehicles were swallowed up and no one was hurt.
