HARTFORD — The former president of a Connecticut nonprofit that provides housing to people with HIV and AIDS has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars in federal funds and spending the money on himself.
The Courant reports that Steven Harvin pleaded guilty Friday to theft from programs receiving federal funds.
Authorities say while president of Zezzo House in Hartford in 2016, Harvin took the money from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development program called Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS.
Prosecutors he also diverted rent checks from Section 8 tenants for personal use.
All told, he was alleged to have stolen more than $25,000.
Harvin is free on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be sentenced March 5. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
