Two people shot in New Haven early Wednesday morning

NEW HAVEN — New Haven police said they are investigating two separate shootings that happened overnight and this morning in the city.

The first happened overnight in the Newhallville neighborhood of the city..

The New Haven Police Department said a person was shot on Bassett Street in the Newhallville neighborhood just after 1:30 a.m.   The gunshot victim had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The second shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. A caller notified police they were shot, and were driving themselves to the Fair Haven police station on Blatchley Avenue.

When the victim arrived, they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Nearby schools were placed on lockdown, and some school buses were diverted but normal school operations resumed after police arrived at the crime scene.

Police do not believe the two shootings were related.

New Haven police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call police at 203-946-6304.
