COVENTRY — The widower of famed herbalist Adelma Grenier Simmons is facing a deadline to leave her once-acclaimed farm in Connecticut in a dispute over the property’s fall into disrepair.

A state judge has ordered 81-year-old Edward Cook to remove his possessions, including several animals, from the Coventry farm by Sunday.

The eviction proceedings in Rockville Superior Court were filed by a lawyer for Simmons’ estate who blames Cook for deteriorating conditions and tax debt.

Cook has appealed to the state Appellate Court, but it’s not clear if the court will rule by Sunday.

Simmons and Cook were married for about four years when she died in 1997 at age 93. She was credited with popularizing the use of herbs in American cooking and published more than 50 books and pamphlets.
