HARTFORD — A West Hartford state senator has been nominated to lead Connecticut’s Office of Early Childhood.

Democratic Gov.-elect Ned Lamont announced Wednesday he’s appointing Democratic Sen. Beth Bye to oversee the agency she worked to create in 2013 to develop a cohesive early childhood care and educational system.

Bye first served in the House of Representatives in 2007 before moving to the Senate in 2011. Her district includes West Hartford, Bloomfield, Burlington, and Farmington.

Although re-elected in November, Bye will only complete her current term and not take the oath of office when the General Assembly convenes. A special election is needed to fill the seat.

Bye will earn $155,000 in her new job, which needs legislative approval.

She currently oversees a Bloomfield community farm that hosts 15,000 student trips annually.
