DANBURY — The former chairwoman of a Connecticut town’s school board has been sentenced to eight years in prison for her role in the sexual abuse of a child.

The News-Times reports that Sara Sobel was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in August under the Alford doctrine to risk of injury to a minor and promoting a minor in an obscene performance. The plea means she disagrees with the evidence, but acknowledges there is enough to convict.

Authorities say the 48-year-old Sobel, the former Redding Board of Education chairwoman, left the child under 13 alone with convicted sex offender Stephen Overby and gave him pornographic photos of the child that she took.

Sobel and Overby also exchanged explicit text messages discussing the girl.

Overby was sentenced to 18 years in prison last February.
