Man hospitalized after being shot in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — New Haven Police said a man  was taken to the hospital after being shot Tuesday near a high school.

The shooting outside an apartment complex at 595 Sherman Parkway near Achievement First Amistad High School.

The shooting happened just after 11 a.m.,

Emergency crews found a 38 year old West Haven resident suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg. The male victim with non-life threatening injuries was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Officers secured a crime scene and detectives responded to the area.

James Hillhouse High School was put into lockdown, and, Dr. Mayo Early Learning Center was put into a modified lock down in which academic and school related activities took place, but no one permitted to enter or leave the school. The restrictions were lifted around noon.
