NEW HAVEN — A convicted drug dealer described as dangerous by a prosecutor is facing sentencing on a gun charge related to a 2017 drug bust in Hartford.
Rascell Leggett is expected to receive a five-year prison term Monday in federal court in New Haven. He pleaded guilty in October to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Federal prosecutors say Leggett was caught with a heroin-fentanyl mixture, some crack cocaine and a loaded 9 mm pistol in December 2017.
The arrest came days after Hartford police say Leggett shot at a car containing a woman and her child. No one was injured. Leggett pleaded guilty to that incident and awaits sentencing.
Leggett’s public defender says Leggett has admitted his wrongdoing and looks forward to turning his life around.
