SHELTON — A former volunteer firefighter in Shelton accused of drunkenly setting a fire behind a Shelton firehouse has taken a plea deal in the case.
Forty-five-year-old Gregory Bomba pleaded guilty to reckless burning Tuesday, and has agreed to a five-year suspended prison sentence and three years of probation when he is sentenced. The Connecticut Post reports the judge indicates Bomba will also have to perform 250 hours of community service.
Police say the fire happened Feb. 3 in the rear parking lot of the firehouse as a “past captains dinner” took place inside the firehouse. Authorities say video shows Bomba and another man lighting cardboard boxes on fire outside the firehouse. Police say Bomba was intoxicated at the time.
The other defendant is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
