Meriden PD investigating after finding the body of a man who lived in fire damaged home

MERIDEN — Investigators have found the body of a man who they say lived in a home damaged by fire Monday morning.

Meriden firefighters were called to a house fire on Side Hill Road at 5:14 a.m. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the basement and first floor. A second alarm was soon called.

A firefighter fell through the floor inside the home, which caused firefighters to slow down their efforts for a time. The chief told FOX61’s Sean Pragano that firefighter was checked out and is not injured.

Police later located the body of the man who lived in the home along River Road in Meriden, about a mile from the fire.

Police and the Meriden fire marshal are investigating.
