HARTFORD -- In a busy week for the Hartford Police Department, detectives are investigating the city's fourth homicide of 2019.
Police were first called to Hartford Hospital for a report of a man shot and taken to the hospital by a private car. Police later learned that the man, who died of his injuries, was shot on New Britain Avenue.
“Right around 5:33 p.m., this evening, we received a call from Hartford Hospital in regards to a single male victim dropped off at the emergency room entrance," said Lieutenant Paul Cicero of the Hartford Police Department. "The individual, a 46-year-old resident of Bristol, Connecticut was pronounced deceased suffering from at least one gunshot wound," Lt. Cicero said.
Moments after the victim from New Britain Avenue was dropped off at Hartford Hospital with a fatal gunshot wound, a second victim was found by HPD lying on the ground on Atwood Street. Investigators now believe he was also shot at the New Britain Avenue scene and then dumped off on Atwood right next to Saint Francis Hospital.
“He is currently being questioned by our major crime’s division personnel," Cicero explained. "There is a potential that these two crimes are related. So, we’ll have more information on that as soon as the major crimes detectives conduct their investigation," Cicero said.
Police said that a large amount of marijuana was found at the scene. The bagged marijuana was seen on the ground on New Britain Avenue Tuesday night. Police described the amount of marijuana as "not for personal use."
Tuesday night's deadly shooting comes just hours after HPD responded to a homicide on Woodland Drive in the North end Tuesday morning.
A person heading out for work found a man shot to death lying on the side of the road. He was identified as 26-year-old Joseph Goiangos of Middletown. Detectives believe that Goiangos' homicide is also drug-related.
