MERIDEN — Employees are planning to protest the closure of AT&T call centers in Meriden.

The New Haven Register reports that U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is expected to join workers at the protest Monday outside the AT&T office on Deerfield Lane in Meriden.

The company has said it plans to close three call centers in Meriden.

CWA Local 1298 says the closure would mean 89 workers must move to Tennessee or Georgia in order to keep their jobs with AT&T.

AT&T says it’s consolidating some work done in Meriden into two other facilities to “increase efficiency and effectiveness.”

AT&T says most impacted employees will be offered a job at other facilities and anyone who declines to relocate can seek other jobs in the company.
