ALBANY, N.Y. — Police have arrested a man who they say sent anthrax hoax letters to federal offices and courts in New York and Connecticut.
Federal authorities say 34-year-old Jason Pantone, of Hyde Park, New York, was charged Thursday with conveying false information and hoax.
Authorities say he sent envelopes filled with white powder and a note that read “anthrax” to more than a dozen locations starting in February.
The locations included Social Security Administration Offices and U.S. District Court offices in Albany and Syracuse, New York and Hartford and Torrington, Connecticut.
Authorities say all of the powder tested so far has not contained hazardous material.
Pantone faces up to five years in prison, if convicted.
A message left with his lawyer Friday was not immediately returned.
