GROTON — Groton saw 77 voters’ ballots rejected due to a poll worker’s incorrect instructions to voters.

The Connecticut Post reports the State Elections Enforcement Commission is investigating the issue after Secretary of the State Denise Merrill referred the problem to the agency in February. The town impacted by the error, Groton, had no races with margins of less than 400 votes — so the error would not have changed any election results.

The poll worker’s incorrect instructions caused the voters to leave their ballots incomplete, resulting in them going uncounted.

Republican State Central Committee representative Dan Hetzel says officials have no reason to believe the poll worker had negative intentions.

Groton officials confirm the town is complying with the investigation.
