Bridgeport Police identify man killed in daytime shooting

BRIDGEPORT  — Police have released the name of the man killed in a daytime shooting in Bridgeport earlier this week.

Authorities say 34-year-old Jerrell Gatewood, of Bridgeport, was struck once in the torso around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.

He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gatewood had survived a 2013 shooting where he was struck in the chest.

Police Chief Armando Perez says investigators are looking into the 2013 shooting as part of Gatewood’s homicide investigation.

Gatewood is the city’s sixth homicide of the year, and the third during daylight hours.
