STORRS — The lawyer for a University of Connecticut student charged with possessing child pornography says it is not clear whether the student intentionally downloaded child porn or whether he was even the person who downloaded it.

Attorney Jerome Paun said Saturday that he believes prosecutors will have a difficult time proving beyond a reasonable doubt that 18-year-old Chun Wang is guilty.

UConn police say they found dozens of images and videos of child porn on Wang’s laptop computer. An arrest affidavit states that he admitted to downloading them.

Wang, a Chinese citizen in the U.S. on a student visa, posted $100,000 bail Friday after being arraigned on a felony charge in Rockville Superior Court. His next court date is April 26. He was ordered to surrender his passport and not leave the United States.

UConn officials say they can’t comment on Wang’s case, but code of conduct violations can result in discipline including expulsion.
