HARTFORD -- Police say one person was killed when his car crashed into an apartment building early Friday morning.

At about 4:45 a.m., police were called to 179 Greenfield Street, at the intersection of Lennox Street, for the reported crash.

The driver, 48-year-old Terrance Collins of Hartford, had suffered serious injuries. He was transported to Saint Francis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  Police say no one else was in the car.

The investigation is preliminary at this time, but tire tracks could be seen on the sidewalk leading up to the crash. Another car seemed to be pushed into a fence surrounding the front yard of the apartment building. Police say the building was found to be structurally sound.

The crash is not related to the homicide that happened a few hours earlier, and just a few blocks away.

The police department's Crime Scene Division has assumed control of the investigation.
