BRISTOL  — A Connecticut man charged with beating his roommate’s cat to death is facing two years in prison.

The Bristol Press reports that 28-year-old Jonathan Ely pleaded guilty Monday under the Alford doctrine to felony cruelty to animals.

Ely’s plea means while not agreeing with the case, he acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict.

The roommate told authorities he found his cat dead on his bedroom floor when he returned to their Bristol apartment last August.

Ely told police he found the cat in the kitchen cabinets, and he put it on the floor and “barely touched” it with the toe of his boot to push it away.

A necropsy determined the cat died from blunt trauma that caused internal bleeding.

Formal sentencing is scheduled for May 16.
