Mayor: Raccoon causes power outage in Hartford

HARTFORD –Buildings in Downtown Hartford were plunged into darkness Wednesday evening when an animal came in contact with electrical equipment.

Mayor Luke Bronin tweeted late Wednesday that power had been restored to the parts of the city that were impacted. At one point, Eversource reported 704 customers without power.  Police said a transformer exploded on Sheldon Street near the Convention Center. According to Eversource, “an animal came into contact with the electrical equipment.” Bronin said it was a raccoon.  Eversource dispatched crews to the scene. The area around Union Station was without power.
