Route 72 east in Plainville back open after fatal car crash, fire

PLAINVILLE — State Police say Route 72 east to I-84 east is back open over five hours after a fatal crash and car fire.

Police say the crash only involved one car and it crashed through the guard rail and into the abutment of the bridge. State Police say only one person was killed.

CTDOT did not find any structural damage to the bridge abutment that was hit in the crash.

Contact Troop H at 860-534-1000 if you have any information regarding the fatal accident involving a four-door sedan. The car sustained such heavy fire damage, investigators can’t determine the make and model of the car.

Police say they can’t determine the cause of death until an autopsy is completed.
