BETHANY- A barn collapse in Bethany has left a construction worker dead.

The barn, on the property at 81 Litchfield Turnpike, was being renovated in recent months. Two construction workers were on site when the nearly 120-year-old barn collapsed at just after 8:30 Thursday morning.

Joister Pacheco-Attaide, 38, of Danbury, was inside the barn when it collapsed and killed him. He leaves behind a wife and two children..

One of the people, who have been working on the barn, said he really felt the barn needed to be demolished and then rebuilt from scratch.

“We had a trooper working a highway construction job, approximately 100 yards from our location, and he heard a loud crash,” said Lt. Kelly Kraynak

Commanding Officer, for the Connecticut State Police Troop I in Bethany.

“I can’t even believe what happened,” said Candie Kader, the former owner of the property. “I don’t know what happened. I can’t wait to hear what went wrong.”

Until last fall, Kader and her husband lived on this property for 21 years. And they built lots of great memories in the barn.

“This barn actually was, we used to have my kids are allowed to invite 25 kids each when they’re grown up and we had a haunted barn out here,” she said.

“It’s just heartbreaking to see that pile of rubble and you know that there is a young man lying under there,” Gorski said.

The current owner homeowners have not responded to Fox 61’s request for comment.
