HARTFORD  — The 16-year-old boy police say was driving a stolen vehicle that struck an SUV last month and killed a man on his way to work is facing a manslaughter charge.

Hartford Lt. Paul Cicero said Monday that a juvenile warrant will be served later this week. The New Britain boy, who is in custody on unrelated charges at the Hartford juvenile detention center, will be charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree evading responsibility, reckless driving, and third-degree larceny.

The boy’s name has not been made public because of his age.

Police say the stolen vehicle slammed into the driver’s side of an SUV being driven by 44-year-old Jose Mendoza early in the afternoon of April 6. The Hartford man died at the hospital.
