HARTFORD — Democratic House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz says he’s waiting to decide whether the Connecticut House of Representatives will vote on a paid family medical leave bill that Gov. Ned Lamont has threatened to veto.

The legislation cleared the Democratic-controlled Senate on Wednesday, despite concerns voiced by the Democratic governor.

Aresimowicz said Thursday he plans to meet with committee leaders, senators and Lamont to see where things stand and whether a compromise can be reached. Lamont says he’s concerned about a proposed “top heavy” governing body that might dissuade private insurers from participating in the program.

Aresimowicz says “a governor’s veto is always a little bit of a game changer,” but didn’t rule out the possibility of voting on the bill as it’s currently written.

The regular legislative session adjourns June 5.
