STAMFORD — A Florida woman charged with scamming a Connecticut resident out of $40,000 has been extradited.
A Stamford woman told police in November 2018 that she was called by a woman posing as an FBI agent who said someone had stolen her identity and used it to rent cars nd open bank accounts.
One of the cars rented under her name had been searched by police who found drugs in it.
She was then ordered to wire $40,000 to a bank account in Miami or she would face 30 years in prison.
The Stamford Advocate reports that investigators traced the account to 31-year-old Maria Lares-Molina, of Medley, Florida.
Lares-Molina was charged with first-degree larceny and held in lieu of a $500,000 bond. No defense attorney was listed in online court records.
