STORRS — The University of Connecticut is buying a house for its incoming president.

The school’s Board of Trustees has agreed to spend $740,000 to purchase a 5,000-square-foot single-family home which sits on just over five acres in Storrs.

The school has been leasing the 18-year-old house from a couple who had announced plans to put in on the market.

It will replace Oak Hill, the presidential residence that was built in 1940.

School officials say Oak Hill is nearing the end of its useful life and estimate it would cost more than $1 million to make needed repairs, including the installation of a new slate roof and heating and air conditioning system.

Thomas Katsouleas is expected to move into the new house when his term as president begins on Aug. 1.
