Driver killed when car goes over cliff in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — A person was killed after the car they were driving went over a cliff Sunday afternoon.

Officials said they were called Ledge Road just over the Southington town line into Plainville for a vehicle over a cliff.  They said the vehicle came to rest approximately 200’ below the roadway and 150’ above the bottom of the embankment at the base of the cliffs. Crews were able to get the driver out after a prolonged technical rescue operation in very steep and challenging terrain however the driver did not survive the crash.

One Southington firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury. He was treated and released back to duty by New Britain General Hospital.
