VERNON --  Police have been trying to figure out what led to a woman being stabbed in the leg Tuesday morning on Bellevue Avenue.

She is in the hospital fighting for her life.

It happened around 10 a.m. Witnesses told FOX61 they said they were shocked because nothing ever happens in the quiet neighborhood.

"Nothing ever seems to be going on at all around here," said Will Baker of Vernon.

Baker worked at Swiss Cleaners and Uniform Services. It was a regular day for him until he said he saw an argument between two women. Seconds later, Baker said it led to a woman being stabbed in the leg.

"The girl on the bike had a pocket knife, it fell out and the girl that was on the front lawn there ended up grabbing it and stabbing her in the leg there and I can only assume it stabbed in the artery or something because she was bleeding out pretty bad," added Baker.

Police rushed to the scene and first responders quickly transported her to Rockville General Hospital and was then transported to Hartford Hospital for additional care.

Police told FOX61 they are making progress with the investigation.

"We believe we’ve identified all of the parties involved in the incident and it’s still under investigation. We’re still conducting interviews and speaking to people to determine exactly what happened," said Lt. William Meier of the Vernon Police Department.

Andrew Hakui said he was outside when the stabbing happened and saw the woman on the ground bleeding.

"It was like basically mostly on the ground and stuff like that you know so other than that. The one woman was almost like half not really conscious or any that type of thing," said Hakui of Vernon.

Police said another person was also treated for minor injuries and is being treated. They added this person and the woman stabbed are from the area.

Part of Bellevue Avenue was closed off for several hours during the investigation and police said there is no threat to the public.

No arrests have been made, but police said if anyone witnessed anything, you are urged to reach out to them immediately.
