NORWALK -- Connecticut State Police said they've arrested a man who allegedly made a shooting threat at a Norwalk DMV Thursday.
Connecticut State Police said they've arrested Gregory Plaia, 55, after a DMV employee said Plaia made a statement saying "Today seems like a good day to shoot to kill."
The DMV employee went on to say that Plaia suggested he would come back another time. Police said Plaia was armed but did not display it inside the DMV.
State police said they've arrested and charged Plaia with breach of peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree.
"Who says that? Today’s a good day to shoot to kill and maybe I’ll come back another day. That’s somewhat as a normal person looking from the outside certainly seems unstable to the average person. Obviously he deserved a second look by law enforcement," added Brian Foley of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.
Police searched Plaia's home where they seized a total of ten firearms and a surplus of ammunition. That included two handguns and eight rifles. None of them were banned or prohibited and they said Plaia cooperated throughout the search.
In a statement, DMV Commissioner Bongi Magubane commended the worker for calling police and said:
“I am so proud of the DMV team at the Norwalk branch for immediately reporting the threatening comments made by a customer this morning. The safety of our employees and customers is a top priority for the DMV and their quick actions are to be commended.”
After the incident, police said there is a fear among the DMV workers.
"Commissioner Rovella and Commissioner Magubane had been speaking regularly. In fact, this week we reached out to her regarding security at all the DMV’s and I know for Commissioner Magubane the safety of our employees and citizens of the DMV is her top priority," added Foley.
Plaia was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 13.
