HARTFORD — Authorities say a Connecticut woman is facing charges for allegedly smashing a glass bottle over a woman’s face outside a restaurant.

Hartford police Lt. Paul Cicero says 40-year-old Avon resident Ronda Heard is accused of hitting a woman with a bottle and breaking it over her face after an argument on March 28 in Hartford.

Heard was arrested Saturday and faces first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment charges.

Cicero said the victim went to the hospital and then went to the police. The Hartford Courant reports she went to the police and showed them medical records that indicated she needed 45 stitches to her face.

Her bail was set at $50,000. It was not made immediately clear if Heard had a lawyer, but she told investigators it was a case of self-defense.
