BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport police say a person is dead after being shot in the head and neck Sunday night.
According to police, just around 9:20 p.m., two gunshots were fired at Gem Avenue near Whitney Avenue. Police say a 21-year-old man was shot in the head and neck while seated in a car, and the driver fled the scene, trying to take the victim to the hospital.
As the driver entered Route 25 southbound, police say he crashed at the on-ramp to I-96 north. The driver was not injured.
The passenger who was shot was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police identified him as Leogiovanni Fernandes Spencer, 22, of Bridgeport.
Bridgeport police are investigating the shooting and State police are investigating the crash. Police say the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
