Pedestrian seriously injured in New London crash, driver arrested

NEW LONDON — One person was seriously injured after being hit by a car Tuesday night. The driver of the car was arrested for DUI.

Police said the accident occurred at 421 Bayonet St. near the entrance/exit of the New London Mall around 10:15 p.m. The pedestrian was initially pinned underneath the offending vehicle. The pedestrian was hospitalized and listed in critical condition at last update.

The operator, Michael Meare, 37, of New London,  was arrested for DUI.

An investigation is ongoing.
