NEW CANAAN — An audit shows three cafeteria staff members cheated a Connecticut school system, and not the students, out of nearly $500,000 in theft.

Jo-Ann Keating, the director of finance and operations for New Canaan Public Schools, said at a Board of Education meeting Tuesday that cafeteria staff took cash from two schools and did not tamper with student accounts tied to the systems.

The Norwalk Hour reports former cafeteria staff members, Joanne Pascarelli, Marie Wilson and Bruce Gluck face charges, including first-degree larceny, for stealing $478,000 from the Saxe Middle school and New Canaan High School cafeterias from 2012 to 2017.

Pascarelli and Wilson were arrested in August 2018 and Gluck was charged in April 2019. All three are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 6.
