BRIDGEPORT — A man awaiting trial for allegedly beating his 10-month-old son to death has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
The Connecticut Post reports that 32-year-old Derrick Siberon pleaded Tuesday under the Alford doctrine to first-degree sexual assault as the victim was about to testify.
An arrest warrant indicates the girl reported she was sexually assaulted in 2015. However, authorities did not send the rape kit to the state lab until Siberon was being investigated for his son’s death in 2017.
The document states that evidence collected from the girl’s room included Siberon’s belongings and identification card.
Siberon faces 10 years in prison and 20 years of probation at sentencing on Jan. 8.
He has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the death of his son.
