WOLCOTT - A body has been on Wolcott Road that may be related to the disappearance of the missing Waterbury woman, Janet Avalo-Alvarez.

The body was found in the woods just miles from the bar of where Avalo-Alvarez worked. Waterbury Police said it will take some time for the forensics team to identify the body.

Wolcott Road was closed off for several hours as police conducted their investigation.

Police were not able to commend on the condition or the gender of the person.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo addressed the case in a news conference and said it was their police work that led them to the evidence in Wolcott.

"We’re very committed to finding some answers for the family, for the Alvarez family in this case and we’ll continue down that path until we have it all," said Chief Spagnolo.

Police were not able to comment on Avalo-Alvarez's boyfriend, 32-year old Alfredo Peguero-Gomez who is now considered a person of interest in the case. He and Avalo-Alvarez were co-owners of "La Guakara Taina."

Avalo-Alvarez's brother, Randy Avalo told FOX61 over the phone they would never suspect her boyfriend to do anything malicious.

"He was always, always close to us and like normal. We don’t feel, like, sad. We don’t feel ... we are worried, but we have hope that she will come back," said Randy Avalo.

The manner and cause of the death of the body will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's Office.

Waterbury police sent the following release shortly after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday:
