BLOOMFIELD - A suspect is on the run and police are investigating after shots were fired at the Stop and Shop in Bloomfield after police say it started due to a verbal altercation in the store.

FOX61 spoke with community members at the Capaco Center after those shots were heard and they say it’s the last thing they’d expect to hear in this area.

Arias was sitting in her car waiting to go into work when she heard gunshots causing a panic.

“Everybody literally ran into lite stop and shop and it was just like a big panic when it all happened,” said Arias.

Officials say two men got into a verbal argument at this Stop and Shop at the Copaco Center.

When they exited and went into their separate vehicles. Is when police say one of the men pulled out a pistol and fired several shots into the parked car that the other man was sitting in... shattering the window, but police say no one was injured.

Another person we spoke to was too shaken to appear on camera, but says the incident is still burned in her mind.

“I saw the shot and I saw everyone running, it was just crazy… Like wow, it’s happening like I didn’t know what to do so I just went back in the store.”

During the clean up two bullet holes were seen in the car, which was the only damage police say was reported from the incident.

An incident that residents say is uncommon in this area.

According to police the suspect drove off in a grey Toyota Corolla and was last seen wearing ripped jeans and a black shirt.
