HARTFORD -- Officials say six people were taken to the hospital following an apartment fire on Sherbrooke Avenue in Hartford.

According to officials, multiple people were forced to jump from their windows on the second floor to escape the flames and smoke.

Of those taken to the hospital, five people suffered from smoke inhalation, and one resident suffered broken leg after jumping out of their window.

Fire officials say there were pieces of furniture found burning on the second-floor hallway, and the flames extended to the third and fourth floors via a vent within the walls.

The fire was brought under control around 8 a.m.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

This is a developing story.
