HARTFORD, Conn — FOX61, Connecticut’s News Station, was named the recipient of a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Writing.
The Edward R. Murrow Awards are among the prestigious recognitions one could receive in broadcast and digital news.
This award was given to FOX61 for a series of reports from reporter Jim Altman. The compilation is called “From Pen to Paper to Pixels: Jim Altman Writes 2022.”
"As the most decorated reporter in New England, we are proud of Jimmy's daily work to serve the greater good of our Connecticut community," said Humberto Hormaza, president and general manager of FOX61, in a statement. "The recognition of a prestigious National Edward Murrow Award is a first for him and so well deserved. Congratulations, Jimmy!"
“Jim has a keen eye for a good story, an interesting character, and just the right word," FOX61 News Director Dana Rosengard said in a statement. "We are proud of his work every day and very excited for this incredible recognition of his efforts.”
The national award follows FOX61 News receiving two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in May. Those awards were for Excellence in Innovation and Excellence in Writing.
The Radio Television Digital News Association has honored outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. The awards recognize news coverage that exemplifies ethical journalism, is technically outstanding, and showcases the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community.
The Murrow Awards are named after Edward R. Murrow, a CBS News journalist who made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
The Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala will be held on Oct. 9 at Gotham Hall in New York City.
