HARTFORD, Conn. — FOX61 continues to serve the local community and provide award-winning journalism, as Connecticut's News Station was named the recipient of two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2023.
The Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards are among the prestigious recognitions one could receive in broadcast and digital news.
The Excellence in Innovation was earned for a series of reports in which the FOX61 team brought Innovations in Weather Storytelling.
"FOX61 News, Connecticut’s News Station, is committed to making an impact in our communities through the great work that the news team delivers daily. These awards are a welcomed recognition of the team’s hard work, passion, and a commitment to excellence," said FOX61 President & General Manager Humberto Hormaza.
Weather forecasts and information are everywhere these days. The FOX61 News Weather Team aims to share the science behind meteorology with viewers in an approachable, innovative way, to retain and attract an audience.
Using augmented reality graphics and animation to explain the story, the team's goal is to go beyond the forecast on calm and stormy days. This submission highlighted an innovative and fresh approach to weather storytelling.
The second award was given for a series of reports from FOX61 reporter Jim Altman for Excellence in Writing.
“The Regional Murrow Awards recognize the best in our industry, and we are honored to win two of these prestigious awards this year,” said Richard Washington III, vice president of news at FOX61. “It is gratifying to know our work is considered to be among the best in local journalism.”
