Peter Pan flies into Waterbury this weekend with the Golden Years Theatre Company

The tale of Peter Pan is a story families know and love. The Golden Years Theatre Company is embracing the message of Peter and his friends never growing up.

WATERBURY, Conn. — Grab your top hat - because Peter Pan is flying into Waterbury this weekend.

But this is not a cast like you've ever seen before, each one of them is over the age of 60. The oldest member taking the stage is 80 years old!

The Golden Years Theatre Company was started by Bob Tansley with the help of Patrick Hearn. Its an effort to create community and give new opportunities to our eldest generation.

Tansley called Hearn on the phone and said, "I’m thinking starting a senior citizen stage company"

His friend responded saying, "I think you’re crazy, but I’m all in," and that’s how it started.

Pearl Wynkoop is playing Peter Pan. Believe it or not, it's her first time on the stage.

"Some of my friends said, 'Are you out of your mind?' I want to go out of this world flying and skidding . I don’t want to say I should’ve done that," Wynkoop said.

This cast is doing it all, including flying!

"I think I’m pretty gutsy, especially with all the flying. I think I’m pretty gutsy." Wynkoop said.

You may notice a cane or an index card with lines on it to help this cast get through, but don't underestimate them.

Al Reiff, who plays Captain Hook, said, "It is about having fun, but we are all trying to put on a show for the audience, so we’re all trying to do our best. We’re trying to make this a quality experience."

This is the companies second production - last year they did Greece. To purchase tickets to the show you can visit here
