Things to do this weekend in Connecticut, Feb. 23-25

From Lunar New Year celebrations to a celebration of all things spring! Here's what is happening in Connecticut this weekend.

CONNECTICUT, USA — It'll be a bright, sunny weekend as we prepare to say "farewell February!" and look ahead to March next week!

From "freezing for a reason" to thoughts of spring gardens and flowers, here's what's happening around the state this weekend!

If it's been a long winter and you're ready to shed that cabin fever, head to Olde Mystick Village on Saturday for their 14th Annual Cabin Fever Charity Cook-Off! Guests can sample signature chowders and vote for their favorites while raising money for a good cause. Door prize giveaways and live music will also be happening. Proceeds from the event will benefit Always Home, which is a non-profit agency dedicated to preventing family homelessness in Eastern Connecticut. Admission to enter is free, and tasting tickets can be purchased on-site on the event day. The event runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Learn more about the cook-off here.

Just because it's still technically winter doesn't mean we can't start looking ahead to the spring. More importantly, our gardens! From Thursday to Sunday, the 42nd Connecticut Flower & Garden Show will display the sights and smells of all things spring! This event is New England's only 2024 flower exhibition show, covering almost two acres and offering ideas for house, apartment, and condo dwellers! The show will feature expansive live gardens, a nonstop schedule of seminars and demonstrations, the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut's annual Standard Flower Show, and hundreds of exhibitors! Admissions and times vary. The show will be held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Learn more about the show and book your tickets here.

Get ready for all things sugar and sweet at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, which is having an All Things Maple and Pancake Party on Saturday! Celebrate the beginning of maple sugar season with this pancake party that's serving up delicious and ginormous stacks of apple cider pancakes with delicious toppings. There will always be a variety of maple flavor tastings from the farm, including maple kettle corn, cinnamon buns, and more! Bradley Mountain Farm will also be on-site with their special make-n'-take goat milk soap activity. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn more here.

Don't forget the delicious food that will be on-site, including donuts, mac and cheese, chili, and pizza. Tickets are $10 for adults, and children under 15 are free! The event runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more here.

If you're the kind who still likes the cold, then join Mystic Aquarium for their annual Freezin' for a Reason event this Sunday! Between the plunge at Esker Point Beach and the delicious food provided, this community event is a fun-filled day! The plunge starts at 11:30 a.m. Learn more about the event here!
