Family-friendly things to do this weekend in Connecticut, Sept. 20-22

From garlic-fest to Oktoberfest to Pumpkintown USA - here's what's happening in Connecticut this weekend!

CONNECTICUT, USA — Sunday marks the official start of the fall season! It's pumpkin spice and everything nice this weekend across the state with plenty of things to do to usher in the changing of the season!

Ever tried garlic ice cream? Head to Mystic this Saturday and Sunday for the 17th Annual Garlic Festival at Olde Mistick Village to experience all things garlic! This award-winning food festival is one of the largest events in town, with nearly 60 farms, specialty food vendors, and local artisans! Try that garlic ice cream or even fried garlic! There will also be 16 live bands and musicians performing throughout the weekend. Admission is free. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and runs to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Celebration of Hispanic Heritage event in New London will be held on Saturday! The event is free to attend and will take place in the Parade Plaza. There will be a raising of the Guatemalan flag, live music, a DJ, salsa lessons, food trucks, and much more! There will also be a dazzling fireworks show at night's end. Head to Stratford this weekend to check out Octoberfest at Two Roads Brewing! Get your stein ready to celebrate one of Two Roads' most popular events! There will be fun activities all over, including a bratwurst eating contest, a stein-holding contest, and a pretzel tossing competition. Plus, there will be live music and fantastic food. There will also be a local vendor market to shop, try your hand at axe throwing, lawn games, a rock wall, and so much more! Learn more about the event and purchase tickets here.

Celebrate our surroundings at the Windsor Eco Monarch Festival this Saturday! It's an eco-friendly festival that focuses on initiatives like gardening, recycling, environmentalism, and the protection of the endangered monarch butterfly. The festival includes over 30 vendors with eco-friendly artisan foods for sale, including home decor, jewelry, healthy skin care products, art made from reused materials, nature photography, and much more! There are plenty of family-friendly events to check out! The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Windsor Town Green. Learn more here.

The Guilford Fair, Connecticut's second oldest agricultural fair, will take place this weekend! Head to the Guilford Fairgrounds from Friday to Sunday to experience entertainment and fun for the entire family! There are exhibits, animals, competitions, rides, food, bands, and the Guilford Fair Family Circus featuring the Flying Wallendas, and much more. Shuttle buses are available to the fairgrounds. Another Oktoberfest celebration will occur this weekend at Quassy Amusement and Water Park! Head to Middlebury to experience this celebration at the pavilion, where you can immerse yourselves in German culture with live music, delicious food, and plenty of fun for the whole family! And finally, Pumpkintown U.S.A. is back! Beginning this Saturday and running until Oct. 31, you can head to East Hampton to stroll through Pumpkintown Village and Pumpkintown Forest! The village features over 70 Pumpkinhead people and their animals enjoying life in their old-fashioned village. Drive through and enjoy a journey through the forest as well with scenic autumnal landscapes and the Pumpkintown villagers in their woodland dwellings.
