CONNECTICUT, USA — With Friday's storm mostly moved out for this weekend, it's the perfect time to get out and enjoy April! If you're looking for something to do this weekend with friends and family, here are some ideas.
First, to round out the wonderful season the UConn men's basketball team had, they'll hold their victory parade on Saturday in Hartford!
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will step off at the State Capitol building at the intersection of Trinity Street and Elm Street. From there, it will proceed north on Trinity Street, go through the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, turn right (east) onto Jewell Street, turn left (north) onto Trumbull Street, and end at Asylum Street and Trumbull Street.
The rally will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. and will be held outside of the main entrance of the XL Center on Trumbull Street, where the players, coaches, and other guests will be invited to give speeches.
Make some room for the Spring Fest Mega Food Truck Festival, which is happening on Saturday and Sunday in Ledyard! Foodies will delight in many options, from burgers and BBQ to nachos and lobster. Enjoy over 20 food trucks and other outdoor fun with bounce houses, a petting zoo, train rides, and face painting for kids! There will also be performances along with local artisan vendors. Learn more about the event here.
One thing synonymous with the word "spring" is cherry blossoms! But you don't have to go all the way to Washington, D.C., to see them. On Sunday, head to Wooster Square in New Haven for their Cherry Blossom Festival! Named by National Geographic as one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in this country, this event attracts thousands of people each year! There will be live music, food trucks, and fun for the whole family. Learn more here.
During the whole month of April, pick up a "passport" at any participating Connecticut library and use it to collect stamps from any other library when you visit! After five or more stamps, you can enter a grand prize drawing for a $200 Visa gift card! Both adults and children are eligible! This program encourages library users to experience the ambiance and collections of other libraries in the state. Learn more about this Passport to the Libraries program here.
Another celebration of spring will happen Saturday and Sunday at Meadowbrook Gardens in New Milford with their Spring Fest! On site will be food, win, baby goats, bounce houses, garden talks, live music, kids' activities, garden talks, and of course, their spring sale! The times are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Learn more about the festival here.
And finally, if you're looking for more greenery to add to your house this season, head to the Connecticut Cactus & Succulent Society's annual show in Bristol this weekend! The show and sale will take place at the Bristol Senior Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will also have food trucks, an auction, and other vendors! Learn more about the event here.
That's not all there is to do in Connecticut this weekend so if you're looking for more ideas, head to CT Visit.
See you next weekend!
