CONNECTICUT, USA — August is nearing its end but summer isn't over yet! The weather will be beautiful this weekend to get outside and enjoy the last of the summer sunshine before school begins.
It may be full of hot air, but that doesn't mean Plainville Fire Company's Hot Air Balloon Festival is any less fun! The festival takes place Friday and Saturday at Norton Park, and it's a spectacular event featuring all kinds of free activities and breathtaking views of hot air balloons! The event kicks off Friday night with a balloon glow followed by fireworks. At sunrise on Saturday, the hot air balloons will take flight! Learn more about the event here.
The Brooklyn Fair, which kicked off Thursday and will go through Sunday, is celebrating over 170 years of fair fun and it's considered one of the oldest agriculture fairs in the country! It'll feature a wide variety of entertainment for all ages, including animal events, live music, carnival rides, games, and fair food! Looking to catch a groove this weekend? Don't miss PorchFest happening in Wethersfield on Saturday! This event brings together 35 bands and musicians who will perform on porches, front yards, and in courtyards all along Main Street in downtown Wethersfield! This day-long community celebration will also include 50 local vendors, family activities, plus special offers at all the restaurants and shops on Main Street. Learn more about the event here.
Beginning this weekend and running through September is the Sunset Tree Swallow Sails on Onrust and Riverquest! Hop aboard as you sail to a special spot on the Connecticut River where hundreds of thousands of Tree Swallows gather. After spending the day miles away from their home, the swallow returns each night to sleep in the reeds. They gather at sunset and perform dazzling aerial ballets! Still happening now and running until Sept. 30 is The Farm's Annual Sunflower Festival in Woodbury! Discover peace from the world in this tranquil sunflower field. Wander through over 20 varieties of exquisite sunflowers that are thriving across four acres! These sunflowers are an array of brilliant colors from reds, yellows, cream, white, and orange! Choose one of your favorite sunflowers to cut and take with you at the end of your walk, or choose to pick a bouquet for an additional charge to take home. It's Sunflowers, Sips, and Sunsets this summer weekend at Lyman Orchards! Walk your way through nearly one mile of winding pathways in the state's original sunflower mate and also enjoy a variety of local Connecticut wines. The 2024 Hartford Yard Goats-themed sunflower maze is around three acres with around 350,000 yellow, red, and orange sunflowers!
