Things to do this weekend in Connecticut, Nov. 1-3

From Dia de Muertos celebrations to pumpkin catapults, here's what's happening this weekend in Connecticut to kick off the new month!

CONNECTICUT, USA — October is over, but the fall season is not! This first weekend of November, temperatures will cool back down to a nice autumn crisp, perfect for getting outside and enjoying the end of the season!

First up, the KidsPlay Children's Museum in Torrington is hosting its annual Pumpkin Chuckin' event on Saturday! This is a jam-packed day with pumpkin-themed activities for families. There will also be a giant catapult to launch pumpkins, and kids can get creative by building their mini catapult with the museum's maker kits. There will also be pumping dissection experiments, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, and much more. It's the perfect event to kick off November!

This is the last weekend to go check out the Wee Faerie Village at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme! This tradition at the museum features an outdoor exhibition of over two dozen intricately designed faerie village installations spread out across the museum's 12-acre campus. Families can visit the museum this weekend and follow the walking trail to discover the mafic and artistry of these pint-sized designs. For over a decade, this exhibition has attracted nearly 200,000 visitors!

Head to the Brown Harvest Farm in Windsor as they host a special Flashlight Maze Friday night and Saturday night. Head to the family with your friends and family to explore the 5-acre corn maze in the dark! Navigate your way through the maze, under the moon and stars, by using your own flashlight. The maze isn't scary or haunted, so bringing the little ones is also fine! There will also be campfires with s'mores and hot cider.

Take part in a special road race, and charity walk this weekend! Jamie's Run is a 5K Road Race, Charity Walk, and Kids K Fun Run will take place at Standish Park in Wethersfield on Sunday. It is run by a non-profit on a mission to fund pediatric cancer research. They also work to help support families financially and emotionally as they fight the diseases. This is the last year for Jamie's Run after 15 years of running. The 5K and walk will begin at 9 a.m., and the Kids K will begin around 10 a.m.

Get dazzled this season at Glow Wild at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo! This event takes you on a journey through a wonderland of illuminated, larger-than-life lanterns inspired by the zoo's wild world. This display spans the width and breadth of the zoo's 30 acres, and guests are invited to walk through the glowing corridors. The display features flora and fauna that will light up the night sky and is designed for all ages to enjoy!

Celebrate Dia de Muertos this weekend in Hartford! The Connecticut Museum of Culture is holding its annual Dia de Muertos Community Celebration on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and fun for all ages! Experience the sights and sounds of the Day of the Dead celebration with art activities, mariachi music, and Mexican folk dance performances. Delicious food will be for sale by food trucks and more! It's an afternoon filled with rich cultural celebration.
